Digestive System Model
PROGRESS
Description:
The 3D-printed skull is used for the function of chewing food. The tube is the esophagus, where food travels to the stomach. The clear plastic wrap and string represents the esophageal sphincter. Our stomach is the tupperware container. The pancreas is yellow-painted clay and the intestines are foam tubing. Functions: The first function is in the mouth, which is chewing. The second is the blocking and allowing of food into the stomach by the esophageal sphincter. Our last function is the digestion of starches in the stomach by enzymes. What still needs to be done: We still need to perfect the acid that will be digesting the food of the stomach. We also need to finish painting the liver and attach it to the board. We are in the process of creating note cards with descriptions of functions to be put on the board as well. |
FINISHED pRODUCT
The skull represents a human head, with a jaw that can move to show chewing of food. The ribbed tubing acts as an esophagus that carries from from the mouth to the stomach. The plastic wrap at the end of the esophagus is the esophageal sphincter, which functions using a string that can be tightened and loosened. A plastic container is the stomach, which contains a solution of 1% Amylase to digest food. Our non-functioning organs are the liver, pancreas, small intestine, and large intestine. The functions are chewing of food, travel through the esophagus, allowing food into the stomach through the sphincter, and digestion in stmoach using enzymes. Each card shows the name and function of each part.
